“Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot.” –Clarence Thomas
Good manners are not a thing of the past. Specially if your find yourself in a dining situation in Five Star restaurant it’s important to be aware of the basics otherwise my friend you will gonna embarrass yourself in front of you people who you going with. So its important that you should know HOW TO BEHAVE WHEN DINING IN FIVE STAR RESTAURANT. Attention to detail will go along way to making your five star dining experience a good one.
You should have complete knowledge about place where you going like where is it , knowledge of manners and etiquette of that place and you should arrive 5 minutes earlier at that place
TABLE MANNERS AND ETIQUETTE
- Diners should wait to be seated until directed to do so by their host or by their waiter if in a restaurant.
- Ladies should follow the waiter first with men following.
HOW TO SIT ON TABLE
First you should place your napkin in your lap before eating. You can leave the napkin on the chair if you leave the table to let the waiter know you aren’t finished. When you return, turn the napkin over to the clean side.
ORDERING YOUR MEAL
- Never order an expensive entrée unless you are encouraged to do so by your host.
- Likewise, ordering the cheapest item on the menu is not recommended either.
HOW TO HOLD YOUR KNIFE
Diner should place the knife in the right hand and fork in the left hand. Hold the knife loosely in the palm of your hand with the three outside fingers gently cradling it. Extend and place your index finger along the top edge of the blade to provide stability and strength. The thumb should wrap below the knife and slightly encircle the three outside fingers
HOW TO EAT WITH KNIFE
Place knife on upper right edge of dinner plate with the blade facing inward and move the dinner fork to the right hand. Eat the piece of meat. Repeat this process for each individual bite.
APPROPRIATE DINNER ACTIVITIES
Conversation is the only appropriate activity when dining with others.
Reading a newspaper, talking on your cell phone, or otherwise diverting your attention from your dining partner is the epitome of poor manners.
TIP FOR CONVERSATION- Leave unpleasant topics at home. Focus on positive talk. Encourage your partner to talk about him or herself by asking questions. This tactic almost always gets a conversation started or revives it during a lull. It only is effective, however, if you listen attentively and provide feedback through verbal encouragement or by gently nodding your head.
Now you all know how to sit on table, things about how to eat and talk but there may be problems with you like if you take first bite you find your food extremely hot then what to do?. You begin to choke on a piece of meat or you swallow the ‘wrong way’.
DINING PROBLEMS AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT
#HOW TO DEAL WITH HOT FOOD
If your food is too hot, quickly take a sip of water, which should ease the problem. Only if there is no beverage available, should you spit the bite of food onto your fork and quickly place it on the edge of your plate. For spoiled food, use your fork as outlined above to discreetly remove the food from your mouth.
If you are not in a life-threatening dilemma and if you think a good cough might dislodge the meat, cover your mouth and give a good cough. If the food moves, remove it from your mouth with your fingers and place it on the side of your plate. If one good cough is not successful, excuse yourself to the restroom to try again.
#WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FIND FOREIGN MATERIAL IN YOUR FOOD
There is rare chance of foreign material in your food like fly, hairs or something else but if it comes then you should know how to deal with it.
If in a restaurant you find this problem, ask for a replacement. If this bothers you, leave the dish untouched. An observant host or hostess will realize you are not eating and see that the dish is replaced.
After finishing your meal, you realize a piece of food is stuck in your teeth. The particle of food is causing much discomfort. First, do not, do not, do not whip out your toothpick and take care of the problem while seated at the table. Excuse yourself and go to the restroom (for the ladies, powder room) to remove it. If at all possible, wait until the end of the meal to excuse yourself to remove it privately. (You may request a toothpick if necessary.)
Sneezing and allergies go hand in hand. Sneezing also is a fact of life that is rarely preventable. If during your dinner, you become aware of the need to sneeze. Cover your mouth and/or nose with your napkin, turn your head away from the table and allow yourself to sneeze. If your sneezing is prolonged, quietly excuse yourself from the table.
- Thank the waiter each time you are served.
- Tear your bread before you butter it
- Leave the table with a quiet, “Excuse me.”
- Blow on your soup to make it cool quickly.
- Use your cell phone to keep in touch with friends.
- Discuss your food preferences.
- Talking while food is in your mouth.
